One of the most important and prolific art forms in recent times is that of Hip Hop. Hip Hop at it core is the marriage between poetic language accompanied with music that becomes one with the rhyme and flow of written word. In contrast to many classic poetic forms that we have studied and analyzed such as the haiku and the sonnet, the form of Hip Hop is not constrained by linguistic rules that need to be followed in order to be deemed Hip Hop. It would be impossible to define the form of Hip Hop in a few sentences because it is so individualized to the artist that created it. The beautiful part of the “form” of Hip Hop is the freedom that it gives to the creator to make there own rules. Two traits that can be tied to this form is flow and rhyme, these tend to be a constant themes and tools used throughout the form as a whole. Hip Hop was born out of a specific time and place and generally pointed out rough and very real ideas such as race, social inequalities, politics and violence, and Hip Hop became an outlet for people to express these ideas and emotions.
